Lonmin plc 4

Lonmin is a primary producer of platinum group metals. Lonmin’s core operations, consisting of eleven shafts and inclines, are located in the Bushveld Igneous Complex in South Africa.

Lonmin is listed on the JSE and London Stock Exchange.

Lonmin announced on 13 December 2017 that it had acquired Amplats’ 42.5% interest and Mvelaphanda Resources’ 7.5% interest in Pandora. Lonmin now owns 100% of Pandora.1

Limpopo

Lonmin’s Limpopo operations division is located 60km south-east of Polokwane, in Limpopo and includes the Baobab mining area, Doornvlei project area, Dwaalkop project area, and the Zebediela prospecting right.

Baobab was a producing mine, but has been on care and maintenance since early 2009.

There is very little publicly available information on the status of the other projects in this “operations division”. Exploratory work has been conducted since the 1960s, with Lonmin recording that “no exploration work has been conducted over the Lonmin Limpopo properties in the 2010 to 2017 financial years”.6
